Comments

Today I'm going to make a real effort to reply to comments and other emails. I usually try to reply within a day or so, but recently I've just not been motivated and let them pile up; which is not very courteous to those of you who've been kind enough to comment on my blog posts. So apologies to everyone who has commented and not received a reply.

I'm always just a little envious of those people who are natural writers, witty and interesting, and who write such perfect replies to my comments. And, whilst I feel that I ought to reply to people who take the time to write comments on my blog, I never feel aggrieved with those people who don't reply to my comments; I just assume that they're far too busy doing interesting things to write about.

How do you deal with comments? And do you feel annoyed if someone doesn't reply to you?

I believe everyone enjoys the comments.. it is wonderful when someone responds.

But, sometimes life gets in the way of a lengthy comment.

Sometime we are just more chatty than at other times.

I always enjoy getting replies to comments, but would never notice the lack of them if I did not. Some comments naturally invite conversation, but some are nicely ended in themselves. I try to enjoy blogging as a hobby and not an obligation, worrying too much makes it more of a job than an enjoyment.

I almost never reply to comments that are made on my posts unless somebody asks a question. Then I'll answer in my comment box so that everybody can see the answer. It takes too long for me to repy to each comment. I have a hard enough time leaving comments on everybody's post without worrying about making a reply to a comment on mine. I tried it once and it ran me ragged. Please don't let blogging become another stress to add to your life, Amanda. I love visiting you and seeing what you're up to. I really don't ever expect you to send me a reply even though I have to smile when I see your name. I've seen very few people replying to comments made on their posts. Honest.

I agree with both of these people- the comments in themselves are lovely to read, and its nice when someone replies (especially when its an added piece of info, or some help, or something private) but its not exactly necessary. We follow you because you interest us, and your work!

It's nice to get a reply but I don't mind if one doesn't come. However, I do think it encourages people to comment again if they don't think their comment may disappear into a black hole. :-)

Life happens, and blogging is a hobby, as Scraphappy says. So I don't worry too much.

I love comments but I don't have time to reply unless I'm asked a question.

I suppose it depends on the comment. If it just says "very nice" or something of a similar sentiment, I don't know how to respond, but if it's a questions or someone telling me something similar they made, I'll respond. Kay, if you're reading, I have to say that I NEVER check the post again to see if the blog writer has replied in the comment, I'd never be able to keep up with all the comments I've made. I think it's much more courteous to reply via email, and it only takes a click on the reply button.

I have a very few blogs now that I comment on regularly, but I feel like I know these blogging friends well enough that if I don't hear back on a particular comment that is fine. Just as long as every once in a while they comment on mine. But there is no pressure, that would take the fun out of it. I reply to comments because I talk way too much (this has been a problem since first grade when Sister Sulpice made me spend most of the year sitting on a stool in the corner for excessive talking, with a sign on me that said "talker" - sigh.
PS -no need to reply to this!

No, I don't feel annoyed at all! I hope others feel the same way! I would prefer people visit my blog than answer my comments. But I must admit that I too feel like I should be answering and then the visiting gets bogged down. I've even thought about disenabling comments on my blog just so people don't have to (and I don't have to reply) but I do like the feedback from comments... You don't need to reply to this! Come visit!
