Even after finishing the blue quilt top earlier this week I still had loads of blue scraps left, so I've made string blocks and stitched them together. I though about using sashing somehow, but I rather liked the look of the whole lot just put together.
Sorry about yet another flash photograph, but I wanted to get this posted and tomorrow's weather forecast is looking pretty grim.
Yesterday I bought Tonya Ricucci's new book Word Play Quilts and I'm using more of the blue scraps to make letters to go around the border and then I hope to use the last few bits up during the next week or so. I don't know what the next colour is, but I'm sure I won't have as many scraps of any other colour as I had of the blue.

Love the basket weave look of your string blocks! Hopefully you are running low on blue scraps by now. Hope the weather starts looking up, it can't stay dull forever.
I really like that. It's always so much fun to see your creations, Amanda!
What I absolutely love about string quilts/blocks....even the stringiest/tiniest left overs that other quilters would throw away suddenly have new life in beautiful quilts.
Wonderful use of the strings!
Love the blue scraps strings! Nah, I don't think they need sashing - it would take something away from it. Love it how it is.
Looking forward to seeing more about this book....
looking forward to seeing your words around this quilt
what a great way to use up those bits and pieces in your scrap basket
A string quilt is on my agenda for my scrap basket too!

I agree those blocks look lovely together without any sashing
I love the quilt top. Isn't it fun just playing with your fabrics seeing where it takes you, this is really well done! Can't wait to see what you do with the book and the words around the border.
Grim looking weather here too. I'm off to the stores before we get icy weather here. Hope you are cozy and warm and get lots of sewing done!
The quilt looks so much like modern art! It's those pieces with the white "windows" that does it, I think. The words around it will be great! I love Tonya's ways of doing things.
Your little quilt is adorable, hard to think of the scraps that I have thrown away at times and that It could have been something beautiful.
Great job.
ooh, love your blocks - wonderful. and wheee for the letters!
Love the string blocks. I need to make another string quilt as my scrap strips are threatening to take over my sewing room.
Love and hugs Gina xxx
