I've been wanting to make this table runner for some time, to practise my needle turn applique and finally got around to it. The PINK didn't look half as vibrant (garish, shocking, loud, bold, noisy, PINK) in the shop, but against the other colours it positively shouts "Look at me, I'm PINK!" Hey ho, it's done, and I've learnt to check colours against each other a bit more.
I had great fun trying out different ways to applique though. First I tried freezer paper on the back and gluing the fabric turnings, then cutting a hole in the back of the under fabric to pull the paper out. It looked great until I tried pulling the paper out - stuck fast, no way was it coming out without a fight. So, some stretched edges later and a few paper scraps still stuck inside; I decided to try it without paper. Hopeless, crinkles and folds all over the place. Eventually I hit upon using freezer paper underneath and gluing just the points; then ironing the shape, and removing the freezer paper before it dried too much. Perfect. The points stayed in place and the creased edges were just right to turn under.
The bag was just a way of using up some scraps and practising machine quilting, flowers on the colours, leaves on the plain. I'm pleased with the way it turned out, so may make some more, perhaps to try and sell at the exhibition.
This is post number 299, so I'll pick a winner soon and announce it on my next post. I've still not decided what to put in the give-away, so the winner may have a bit of a wait!

I usually use freezer paper on the front, it makes cutting holes unnessesary and it comes off easily.
Love the pink table runner...bright but oh so pretty. The bag turned quite well too...looks like you have mastered the machine quilting in making flowers and leaves...I do good tosew a somewhat straight line.

Lovely bag! Great way to use up scraps. I like using freezer paper on top of the fabric for needle turn applique. I used to applique quite a lot but haven't lately. I need to get back into it.
I like the pink - it is bright - but perfect I think to use after winter. Practicing applique can be frustrating, but your block looks good. I think it's one of those things the more we do it the easier it becomes. Love the bag - what a smart way to practice quilting.
I don't think it's garish, shocking or loud. I think it looks soft and girly and lovely. The bag looks nice and roomy, and your FMQ is sure a lot better than mine. Great job, Amanda.

Your pink table runner looks great but I love the bag sewn from leftovers. The quilting looks very good to me, it looks like you have done a lot of practise. If I use freezer paper I use it on the front and then it is easy to remove. I have just found out about 'Floriani stitch and wash--fusible. This is a great product, you iron it to the back of the fabric and then turn the raw edges to the back and glue them in place with water soluble glue you then either pin or glue to where you want it and sew in place. You dont have to remove it as it will wash out when the item is washed. i am using it in a couple of quilts at the moment.
