Perfect timing

I've been planning for some time now to make a bag for when we go camping. I want something to carry everything in to take to the showers, and that I can then use to keep the wet and dry stuff separated when I come back. Dawn Hay has designed a bag to raise funds to help the people of Baseco in Manila, and it's perfect for the job. I've used some of the squares that I cut for my Angels Story quilt, which I then decided were just not right for that quilt, but were perfect for this bag.
From March 2010
I've also lined it with plastic and put in a separate compartment, so hopefully I've covered all bases (that may well be a baseball term, but I prefer to think of it as a rounders reference, much more English!).
From March 2010
I seem to be constantly apologising for the poor photographs I take, but it's another grey and dull day here and far too cold to stand around outside, so I've made the best of a bad job again.

DH has been away on business in France for a few days, so I've been able to get a lot of hand quilting done on my Angels Story quilt. Over at Midsomer Quilting they've recently expanded into the upstairs space, where there are a whole load of tables. They kindly let me borrow this room to layer and baste the quilt, and it made such a difference. No more sore knees from trying to use the floor; no more wrinkles in the quilt from trying to manoeuvre it on my dining room table; and only a slightly achy back. Heaps better than usual. It should be finished in the next week or so I hope, so more pictures then.

Wonderful bag I love the fabrics and how smart to use some of your extra squares from your Angels Story quilt. I'm really impressed with the lining, was it difficult to sew on. Covering the bases is a baseball term, in fact when I go to my son's baseball games I often hear the coaches shouting out 'cover your bases'.

The purse turned out so pretty...with husband gone I bet you have been busy with your projects.

Oh that would be wonderful to be able to spread out your quilt ona big table instead of the floor. I have tried it a couple of times on my table (used the pad - did not want to go to next to the wood...did not want to add any more scratches)...worked out fair for me...but I think next time will start in the flor and pen some major places and then move to table...just one of the perils of getting older.

Placing plastic inside the tote is an excellent ides....was it the plastic that you buy at WalMart in the fabric department or more of a heavy trash bag kind???

Your bag looks too lovely for camping.
Basting the quilt is the worst part of making a quilt for me.

What a great bag, although it seems far too pretty for camping. I like the idea of lining it with plastic. I'll have to remember that idea for later. Basting is such a tedious job, so tempting to rush through it, but I always end up regretting it later.

Hi Amanda found you from Dawn`s blog and the Baseco bag looks great. I like the idea of adding the lining and using it for your caravan, I will now have to do the same as it is a great idea.Cheers for now Jude
