The Mummy - Return of the Dragon Emperor (98)

Number One Son, had given me two cinema tickets for my birthday, so yesterday Christopher and I went to see The Mummy - Return of the Dragon Emperor. And then, bless him, we found he had also organised a drinks voucher for us, so DH was able to have a large glass of wine, I had some water (the last of the great drinkers, that's me!) and we shared some salted popcorn.

The film was great fun, well up to the standard of the first two. Predictable plot, but good fun and the CGI was amazing. Certainly worth seeing on the big screen. And very topical for us, of course, following the visit of the Terracotta Army this year and with the Beijing Olympics. I think it's had some pretty average reviews, but for me if fulfilled all the criteria for a Saturday afternoon movie - entertaining without being intellectually challenging.

It was a real 'square eye' day yesterday, having spent the rest of the day glued to the television watching the Olympics - a brilliant day for the UK, with gold medals in swimming, rowing and cycling, as well as more bronze and silver medals. Thank goodness we were able to walk to the cinema, I needed a little exercise after all that sitting around. Lots of hand sewing and knitting though.

Exhausted! (62)

Well, it's been another quiet couple of days. Yesterday I read nearly all day, apart from a bit of stitching on the Capricorn BOM. I was reading Richard Hammond's book On the Edge - an account of his accident. For those of you who don't know who he is, he's a presenter on a very popular television programme called Top Gear - ostensibly a car programme, but extremely entertaining. About 18 months ago he had a dreadful car accident, driving a jet powered car for the programme, and suffered severe head injuries. The book is the story of his fight for life and then the road to full recovery. It's very well written and was one of those 'read in one sitting' books.

Unfortunately, last night I had a migraine, which has left me completely wiped out today, so I've done nothing, apart from put a few things back into the newly painted bedroom and spend far too much time on the computer. I watched Planet of the Apes this afternoon - the original Charlton Heston film, which I had never seen. I'm afraid I never much cared for him as an actor, and the film is pretty dreadful - absolutely perfect when you're feeling rough and just want something to doze off to!

I must go and do something about supper now, and hopefully do a bit of hand sewing this evening. I hope to recover some energy soon as there's a quilt show at Sandown Race course over the weekend and I'd love to go along.

A Typical British Bank Holiday ! (47)

It's been a few days since I last posted - I just didn't have anything much to say, so I didn't. I've enjoyed looking at what everyone else has been up to on their long weekend - both in America and in the UK. Is it just me though, or do other people feel that Blogger is patronising them? If I don't type the letter code in accurately when I make a comment, it comes back with an easier set of letters!! I feel like the 'special' child in the class.

Yesterday was a typical British bank holiday - wet and dreary. Having cut out zillions of squares for Step 5 of the mystery, I felt weary and went back to bed for a while to watch 'The Lost World' a film from way back, just what I needed to cheer me up guffawing at the dreadful acting and special effects.

In the afternoon we went to see the new Indiana Jones film. I had seen lots of recommendations on the blogs and we weren't disappointed. It was great fun, well up to the standard of the earlier films. I can't remember the last time we went to the cinema, as we usually wait for films to come out on DVD, but it was super - we even had some popcorn!

Today I've been catching up with emails and blogs (which I've enjoyed) and now I've got to catch up with paperwork. Pooh! never mind, there's plenty of sewing to reward myself with once I'm all organised.
