Fat cat

Oh dear, poor Rosie is now officially obese! I had to take her to the vet yesterday for her annual vaccinations and they weighed her. 6.2 kg!! We're always really careful about what she eats, I even weigh out her cat biscuits each day, and the poor thing never gets any treats. But she's just so very lazy. I've now been given some special biscuits for her, called Obesity Management, so we'll have to wait and see. And I've got to take her to a weight management clinic, a sort of Weight Watchers for cats.

I'm seriously considering getting a cat harness and taking her our for a walk around the garden each day, but I fear that I'd end up dragging her along as I'm sure she wouldn't take to a harness.

She'll play for a minute or two, but then gets bored and wanders off. So, we're a bit stumped as to how to help. Perhaps I'll have to start putting her food up high so that she has to jump up to get it and then jump off. You can see that I'm getting a bit desperate for ideas!

Ahh she doesn't look that fat. Putting her food up seems like a good idea though, make her work for it a bit more, might have to start doing that for my chubby cats too!

Perhaps it is just in her genes to be a heavy cat.

We have two cats...one is heavy and the other is thin...the food is equally divided between their two bowls. Some times the thin one will eat, but oft times will just walk away. Her diet consists mostly of dry food. They get one can of cat food per day...dry food is always available.

Does Rosie drink a lot of water? We have a bowl where the water circulates constantly - which keeps it cool. Ours drinks much more since we got it than they did when it was just a bowl of water.

Following a torchlight beam fascinates Winston. We have got a laser beam but have to be careful with it. He also likes dangly toys and feathers but I'm sure you've tried those. Catmint toys are supposed to drive cats wild but we haven't found any of those.
Good luck with the diet!

Oh dear... She does look contented though. You are being a very good mama cat by watching her weight.

I had to google convert kg to lbs. Okay so she's a wee bit tubby. I feed mine indoor cat food. Plus we have lots of steps and he likes to follow us around, I think the running up and down keeps him trim. Maybe some new and exciting cat toys?

Weight Watchers for cats! Toi would have to join that too if there was one in Japan. Taking a cat for a walk doesn't give the cat owner much exercise, that's for sure!
