Finishes for July

I've got lots of bits and pieces done this month - a quilt top ready for sandwiching and quilting, a pile of blocks ready to be stitched together, a couple of finished embroideries ready for mounting or framing, a whole load of hexagons stitched together - but these are the two finished projects for this month.

A couple of weeks ago we went to a party to celebrate the 40th and 50th birthdays of some friends. I made this table runner for them out of silk. It looks terrific, but it was a difficult fabric to work with as it frayed such a lot. And now Christopher has asked me to make another one for some other friends who are getting married.

This is a knitting needle bag I made for my sister in law who has a birthday in a couple of week's time.

Have you spotted the dried brown leaves on the table? We're not yet into August and already some of the leaves are turning and starting to fall. I imagine that's because of the really dry spring that we had. I hope that still some weather to come before the autumn really sets in.

The silk fabric looks just beautiful. Too bad it is difficult to work with, but the finished effect is striking. It seems like most of your quilting is for other people these days. It is so nice that you are able to make such lovely handmade gifts.

Wow! That is a very impressive table runner! I'm so impressed. I don't think I've ever sewn with silk before. It's such a beautiful pattern.

These are 2 gorgeous projects...way to go! I have never worked with silk because of the fraying, but I love what you have created!

Even though it's difficult to work with it looks like it was well worth it, as it is beautiful. Love the colors, wish I could feel it. Nice that Christopher appreciates it, although maybe you could talk him into cotton. But regardless it will make an elegant and treasured gift.

That is one gorgeous table runner. I wonder if you cut it out with pinking shears if that would help. I know that a lot of the charm packs are pinked, so it shouldn't be a no no. Definitely not as easy as rotary cutting though. Any knitter would love the knitting needle bag.
