This is the view we woke up to yesterday morning, about eight inches of snow. We knew it was on its way, but it hadn't started snowing when we went to bed. It looks so pretty, but causes so much chaos. Schools close, trains stop, airports close, roads come to a standstill. Gritting lorries have been out, but they don't come up on to little side roads like ours.
Christopher spent some time clearing some areas so that we can put food down for the birds; even the rooks and magpies have been trying to balance on the feeders, to no avail. Rosie spent the day inside with her legs crossed!
We went out for a walk down to the village shop in the late morning and although it was cold it was easy to walk in as it hasn't been compacted yet.
(That's me, looking like Michelin Man with all the layers I had on!)
I did think of doing lots of sewing, but first had to do the housework after all the Christmas decorations had been put away. In the afternoon I finished a little hanging for my niece for her birthday, and made a couple of cushion covers - photographs still to come.

Keep warm and safe

That is a lot of snow! My uncle near Malvern said they'd had 8" too and the village had ground to a halt.
We are still having trouble with ice, nothing has thawed or cleared since Dec.21. It is pretty though.
We are having a cold wave, but no white stuff. It sure looks pretty. Sounds like you are keeping busy, and warm too, I hope.
Everything coming to a halt is pretty much the way it is around here when a lot snow hits...our streets/roads maintenance people do not have enough equipment to get all the roadways cleared quickly.
Question: what are gritting lorries?
Wind is gusting to 35 miles per hour and the temp is falling...supposed to go below zero for the next 3 or 4 days. School is out in several locations because of the cold...as many children have to walk or wait for the bus.
A beautiful snow! I like the term "gritting lorries". Something I have not heard before. I would call them salt trucks.
So pretty, it's even prettier when you don't have to go out in it and can just admire it. We are supposed to get a dusting and the paper's notice of it was - "Don't Freak out it's only 1 inch forecasted" So that tells you what happens here when it snows!
Wouldn't snow be nicer if it didn't come with all the cold?
But gosh, Amanda, it looks so pretty! And you don't look like the Michelin Man at all. Layering is definitely the way to go. 8" is a lot of snow. I hope you were able to get some sewing in.
Isn't this weather something else!! And we are set to get more over the weekend. I'm just so grateful to have fabric to play with during all this time at home!
