Socks

It's another ferociously hot day here in the UK and very humid again, so it's a day for enjoying the sunshine from the coolness of the inside of our house. The older part of the house has walls that are about two foot thick, and made of stone, so it really does keep the heat out, and in during the winter. At the moment I'm sitting in my bedroom which has windows on both sides of the room, so there's a cross draft as well, so it's reasonably bearable. I've just been outside to hang out the washing; the heat should dry it quickly, but the humidity will probably mean that it will take all day.

So, as you can imagine, I wore the socks purely for the photograph and then whipped them off again quickly. It's the first time I've knitted with four needles, so as I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself. I'm slightly mystified why the pattern looks so different on each sock, but there you go. They've even turned out much the same size! I need to learn a different way of casting on as the tops are a little snug, but I shall certainly have another go soon.

Morning Amanda!
Well, those socks are lovely and would FEEL lovely on the feet today over here in Wisconsin, USA! It is currently 7:00 am and 52 degrees (F) (11 degrees C). The past two days have only been slightly warmer!

However!!!
I am NOT complaining! After the heat and humidity from last week, this weather is LOVELY! You can always throw a sweatshirt on or snuggle in a quilt with these temps!

Hopefully there will be a break in the humidity for you soon as well!

Some snazzy tootsie warmers you are sporting!

Must admit they are quite colorful...using 4 needles...I can't even use one knitting needle...guess I am just challenged in that department.

I don't think I will ever knit a pair of socks but do find it interesting. There is such a variety of yarns available today for sock making and they are so interesting.

I love that term "chuffed" with my myself. I saw that on Brit Gal Sarah's blog (http://www.britgalusa.com/). She explains British sayings to us. I think your socks look great and the more I hear about your house, the more impressed I am. 2 feet thick walls? Wow! I'll bet that would stand up to any tropical hurricane.

How cool are they! You should be chuffed with using the four needles to knit them, it takes a bit of getting used to!
I didn't even notice the sock pattern until you mentioned it, no idea - maybe MaryGrace can help with that????

Terribly impressive socks. I can see why you are chuffed. Do I take it from your comments on the heat that you don't have air conditioning? That would be quite unbearable for us, I'm sure your weather is much more moderate.

"Mind your knitting!" Ad admonition to girls by mothers worried about them on their first dates.

I like your knitted socks. Make them a little larger in diameter and you could have a whole body suit.

Not to apologize for your heat and humidity. I think you guys suffer from lots of rain and such damp dark days that you deserve the warmth and sunshine once in a while :)

I love your stripey socks! I need to get back to my knitting and finish my first project. Someday I'll work on learning how to knit socks:)
