I've not been signing in all that often recently - life has been pretty hectic combined with a period of poor health, so I've been resting as much as I can. I've just realised that it's exactly a year (well, all but a day) since my first blog, on 10th March 2008. I've met so many lovely people and learnt such a lot about quilting, and about other areas of the world. So, it's time for a giveaway - but not quite yet! I'll soon be coming up to 200 posts, and if I combine this with something else that - fingers crossed - will be happening in the next week or so, I can see a really special giveaway coming up.
Meantime, I've been making steady progress on my spring quilt - no exciting name for it yet I fear - and have finished the applique. I've also stitched the flying geese borders but not yet attached them. I'm trying to decide what to do in the corners - whether to settle for straightforward squares (I'm trying one out in this picture) or to be a little bolder and make some star blocks for the corners. Any suggestions.
And then I went and forgot my sister-in-law's birthday, so put this little wall hanging together rather quickly. I'd just finished the mini cross stitch sampler and had a fancy for some prairie points in the border - very fiddly, using one-and-three-quarter inch squares, but worth it.

I think star blocks would be lovely in the corners. The quilt is great--the colors are so light and fresh and springy. The little sampler is too cute. Love the little black kitty in the center :)
How pretty your spring quilt is turning out. The mariners compass is terrific. I think I may leave the corner squares solid. I might not want to detract from that wonderful middle block or the beautiful applique that you have done.

Your spring quilt is so beautiful and the fabrics leave me hoping and wishing for spring! The applique is so flitty (is that a word?) and wandering it just brings a happy smile to my face! Silly thing - ya know, like a bee's trail..?! The wall hanging is just too cute! Love the fabrics!
The wall hanging for your sister-in-law is very lovely! What a good idea for a cross stitch piece. I have a few pieces I did years ago and have never done anything with. This gives me ideas! I love the quilt you are working on. While the plain squares in the corners are lovely, I think it calls for something a little more dramatic.

I love the quilt when the star blocks are in the corners. They really set the centre off. the applique looks fabulous with it aswell. Is it your own design

Congratulations on one year of blogging and 200 posts! I've just passed my one year anniversary, but don't have as many posts as you. I'm aiming for 200. Sorry that you are not feeling well. Lots of sick people here, too. Your new project looks great. What about a small applique flower in the corners with a green background? Just a thought. I dont' have any strong "suggestion." Your spring quilt is just fabulous. The Mariners compass in the middle is terrific. I've always wanted to try one, but get stuck about what to put around it. Your applique flowers set it off quite well. You could put a flower in your corner squares to tie it all together. Happy quilting.
