Ruby, week 1

Well, we've now had the monster for a week, and what a week it's been. We knew it would be hard work, but knowing something is quite different from experiencing it and it was quite a shock to begin with. You can read all the books, but they're all written by experts who have completely forgotten what it's like to be first time puppy owners.

Day 1, just after we'd arrived home with Ruby, seen here with Number Two Son who was visiting at the time.

Day 1 - Ruby soon discovered her new bed and retreated away from all of the excitement. Her bed doesn't look as clean and new as that now!

Day 3 - off to the vet for her first vaccination

Christopher soon worked out that running up and down the grass was a good way to tire her out!

Hmm, Ruby soon discovered Christopher's carefully trimmed small euonymous and has since managed to flatten it. It's a favourite place to stash sticks and toys.

We're getting into a bit of a routine now, and it's leaving me the odd half hour here and there for the housework and washing (the kitchen floor has never been washed so much!) and hopefully I'll be able to get back to some sewing soon.

Aww, how lovely! I promise you it does get better - well, different! She is such a sweetie. Puppies grow very quickly so make the most of your little one - she won't be little for long:-)

I rescued Meg when she was 8 mths old. I was 'knackered' for weeks until I got used to the early morning walks and having to play with her due to her boundless energy.

Now, at 3, she is happy with one good walk a day and some play time, then sleep, more sleep and a bit more sleep.

I am sure there has been many adjustments to the routine of your household. But, Ruby is a doll and soon everything will fall into place and she will take her rightful place as a member of the family...perhaps, the most spoiled member...but that is a story for another time.

It sounds like she is keeping you busy. A new puppy is a lot like a new baby, but it is so worth the effort. She is adorable!!

Soooo Cute!!!! Yes, excercise equals a tired puppy and you are so smart to use a crate. They are exhausting though, wait till she starts chewing on things. Good things puppies are so cute, makes it hard to get to mad at them.

Yeah! Ruby is a beauty! Yes I'm sure a puppy takes some getting used to! And as for washing the floor that gets to be routine. How about chewing things? My friend's puppy just chewed up her Bible! A Holy Dog!

Oh my! This is like being with a toddler. I can see Number 2 son is loving this baby too.
