I've managed to meet my self-imposed goal of finishing my Irish chain quilt in time for Number One Son's visit. I had to machine sew the binding on as time was running short and I'm a bit weary today, and washing will have to wait until after his visit, but it's done and on the bed. I must say it's come up lots larger than I anticipated, and I rather wish I'd made it 6 x 4 blocks instead of 5 x 5, but there you go. It looks great and I'm delighted with it. It's great to have it done; it's been sitting in the sewing room staring at me accusingly since I started it after Oliver's last visit.
I've started on my next large quilt, using Lynette Anderson's pattern Gordon Bear which I won in one of her giveaways. I'm using scraps for this, though I'm sticking to her suggested colour scheme. So far I've been doing it as leaders and enders, and there's no rush as it's for one of the beds in the larger guest room.
And now I need to actually buy some fabric (sorry Bec!), as I've cut up all my greens for the Gordon Bear quilt and I'm going to a workshop on Sunday to make a log cabin Christmas tree wall hanging, and need some greens. I've never had much in the way of a stash, though I'm keen to use it up so I can buy some new fabric when the sales come round.
And finally, a gratuitous photograph of Rosie sitting in the sunshine in the lounge, trying to look nonchalant after I shooed her off the new quilt.

How wonderful - I love the Irish Chain quilt. I especially like the way you quilted it. I've seen the Gordon Bear pattern and it looks like fun.
I love your quilt. Irish Chains are simple yet when put together, they look very intricate. Great job.

Wow! That really went quickly in the end didn't it! You were just posting strips the other day! It looks beautiful on the bed! I've never done the quilt as you go method. Aren't all those seams on the back of the quilt a real bear to do later on? Do they have to be all hand stitched? Ug! I don't even like to do binding!! Your son is going to feel so welcome!
Yay! Congratulations on meeting your deadlines. I think self imposed deadlines are important. Otherwise it is too easy to languish and wander. Your quilting looks fabulous. I like the look of the dark thread, and it would show mistakes easily. I can see why you chose quilting in sections on this one. Keeping it all straight with a big quilt would have been difficult.
Well done amanda on the finish of this quilt, Its a grand quilt you have made,
Take care
Love the quilt Amanda.

Your Irish Chain turned out really beautifully. I loved that pattern before I ever made a quilt, and one of these days I'll make one, too. I'm not sure what Gordon Bear looks like, I'll have to look it up.
Your Irish Chain quilt looks AMAZING! Love it! dh loves it too, which means it IS really really good! (he doesn't like many quilts)
Don't worry about your fabric purchase, a workshop is a learning thing and ALLOWED! You really do well though and are a fabulous inspiration for others on using what they have on hand. Keep up the great work Amanda, Bec xxx
Well done for getting it finished Amanda - it's a real credit to you - beautiful!
You are too too amazing, Amanda. That quilt is gorgeous and Number 1 son is going to be mighty impressed. I know if I ever made something like that for my son, he'd be in the clouds.
