Help needed please

Does anyone know of a good butterfly quilt pattern? The friends we went away with this weekend help to run a charity set up by their family to raise funds for sensory play equipment for brain damaged children. Their logo is a butterfly, and I offered to make a quilt for their next auction. So now all I need is a pattern. Any ideas?

Good luck, Amanda! I wish I could help. I came right over when I saw your title but you know me... I have no idea how to even start quilting.

I'll look today - I remember seeing one or two in some back issues of magazines I have. What about using butterfly fabric - in case you can't find a satisfactory pattern?

I made a very cute flip and sew butterfly with Anna a few years ago. I put a picture and some basic instructions on my blog: http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/2009/07/butterfly-quilt.html

There are also a bunch of ideas at a free pattern site:

Have fun, butterflies are a great chance to use lots of fun patterns.

Have you tried Marcia Hohn's site for butterfly blocks? http://www.quilterscache.com/

Also found this list at With Heart and Hands:

I noticed that Kate suggested Leanne's Butterfly Garden - that's a beautiful quilt.
I was catching up on your blog and read about you going to Tewkesbury and I wondered why you were so excited, until I recalled that you don't live in NEW England! We have a small town called Tewksbury, just a little "hole in the wall" - nothing to get excited about! So when I popped over to your other blog and had my "two by four moment" I had a good giggle. Your Tewkesbury is definitely better than our Tewksbury! Looks like you had a wonderful time.

Are you thinking of appliqued butterflies or stitchery butterflies or pieced butterflies?
I just saw a prettier-than-I've-seen-before appliqued butterfly somewhere yesterday - will try to find it again.
What a lovely thing for you to do!

Gosh, my mom used to make butterfly quilts during the war but none are around here now and all of her stuff is gone too. Too many years ago I guess.

Hi Amanda - lost the links to your blog so only just caught up with you again. Look back over my blog probably fairly near the beginning in the archives and you'll find a very simplistic butterfly I drew up using just two hearts place strategically together - I hand applique but it would be just as good larger and machine appliqued - far quicker than piecing complicated blocks. If you can't find anything email me and I'll send you some sort of instructions by snail mail
