Hopeless Quilter!! (193)

Yesterday we finally managed a visit to my new local quilting shop, Midsomer Quilters, which is about 4 miles away. It's set in an old barn in the grounds of a garden centre, with a craft shop right next door. What more could a stitcher and crafter want? Inside, it's been divided into several rooms - probably using the original walls that were there for the animals. You can't see all of it in this photograph as some is hidden away to the right behind the building (the craft shop is in the long low building on the right). There's a long arm quilting machine at one end and a large workroom. They seem to hold classes every weekend, often two, so there's plenty to choose from.
From April 2009

There's a tiny lounge area, with just four armchairs and a table, with free coffee and newspapers available, so husbands can sit and wait happily while you browse. And loads of lovely fabric, some imported from America and as little as £5 a metre; they had lots of beautiful African fabrics too.

So, with Christopher settled with a coffee and the newspapers I had time to browse. Which I did very happily.

And now I can hear you asking impatiently - what did I buy? Well ..... one reel of cream thread!! That's all! My only excuse is that without a specific project in mind I just can't seem to buy fabric.

Like I said - I'm a hopeless quilter!!

I'm sure now that you've seen all the different kinds of fabrics available, you'll be able to start creating your projects in your mind. I'll be looking forward to seeing your new creations.

That is nice having a place for the husbands to wait...allows the lady to wander around and shop at her leisure. With that shop only 4 miles from your place is quite handy.

Enjoy your new adventures this week.

PS How is # 1 cat adjusting to her new home now?

I hope you are doing better and are on the mend. Just looked thru the photos of your lovely new home. Love the gardens and the greenhouse. I'm so glad you were able to get the home of your dreams. Hopefully your husband's long days won't last longer than you anticipate. For years we used to get small barn swallows that nested in an inaccessible window in our pantry. It was so much fun to watch the babies. Then we got cats - who also enjoyed the view. However, the swallows weren't too happy and found another place to nest!

It's okay not to buy anything - that's why some of us have out of control stashes. I like just browsing as much. It does look like a charming shop from the outside.

LOL! I wish I had your *problem* of only buying a spool of thread if I don't have a specific project. i have lots of fabric that needs a project to go with it! How nice to have your LQS close to you and that they have lots of classes. A great opportunity to meet local quilters.

I wish I had enough of your self control to only buy when I had a specific project in mind. I do enjoy having a bit of fabric on hand, mainly because I love to find a bargain. It is lovely that you have a nice quilt shop so close. Now you know it will be there when you need it. Now all you have to do is find a project.

Amanda, what are we going to do with you? All that fabric to pick from and you come out with only a spool of thread. At least the shop is close by and you can go again any time you feel like it. I like the idea that the shop is in an old barn.

I know this sounds abit off the wall... but I've found you through several other blogs and a comment you made. I thank you from the bottom of my heart because I have thought for years now that I imagined my mother getting free daffs with washing powder when I was young. Nobody else seemed to know what I was talking about. Now I'll go and read your blog....

Oh LOVE that photo....great laughs! What a fun park to visit and the cave area!

Amanda, thank you for ALL your comments on my blog and notes about IAN coping with his battle, I really REALLY appreciate it! It helps so much to know that someone else has gone down this street before me...thanks for caring enough to write in. I haven't the energy to visit my "blog neighborhoods" much anymore but I'll try. Nice to see what everyone else is doing!

PS- tried to leave this comment at your new blog but it wouldn't let me so I'm commenting here.

That sounds like such a great quilting shop! And I love the look of it from your photo. I would love it if my local quilt shop had a bit more character!
